Physician Extenders (PE)

Cenpatico recognizes and provides reimbursement for covered behavioral health services performed by a Physician Extender (PE) in Indiana. APE is a midlevel provider that can perform the same duties as a Psychiatrist, including but not limited to, medication management, hospital rounding, etc. Cenpatico recognizes the following provider types as PEs:

1. Clinical Nurses Specialist (CNS)
2. Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner (APNP)
3. Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)

However, in order to provide services to MHS members, the above listed provider types need to have an executed contract with Cenpatico and successfully completed the credentialing process. Once the provider is credentialed and in a participating status with Cenpatico, authorization will not be required for medication management services that are provided to eligible MHS members.
