Actress Glenn Close looks to “Bring Change 2 Mind”

Nov. 3, 2009 | Author: Bobby Dipasquale

Actress Glenn Close along with the Child and Adolescent Bipolar Foundation (CABF), Fountain House, and Garen and Shari Staglin of IMHRO (International Mental Health Research Organization) have started Bringchange2mind.org in order to battle the stigma of Mental Illness.

Close, who’s sister and nephew both suffer from mental illnesses, started the campaign in hopes of providing people with misconceptions about mental illness quick and easy access to information that combats stigma and to provide people with mental illness access to information and support. Actor/Director Ron Howard and singer/songwriter John Mayer have also contributed their talents to help this movement. Howard directed Bring Change’s first PSA which can be viewed here. Mayer’s song “Say” has become the anthem for the movement.

Bring Change is also asking others to share their story. Send them a video and it may be picked to be featured on the site. People can also share their story by going to Bring Change’s Message Board.

Bring Change 2 Mind is supported by many major mental health organizations including our friends at the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Mental Health America, The National Institue on Mental Health (NIMH), The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), and many others.

Cenpatico applauds Ms. Close and all that are working, as we do each day to Inspire Hope, Bring Change, and advocate Recovery, Resiliency, and Results.

I have some sort or brain issue. They haven’t put a name to it. I am 51 and I can remember feeling this way from the time I was 5. When I grew up I started a quest to make me better and “normal”. My mom had problems, everyone, even the doctors said it was hormonal (how easy was that? A woman flipping out – its her “time”. My 2 sisters and 2 brothers have what I have and they have resorted to living alone or drinking. Anything to get our brains TO SHUT UP!!! I’m a very open person and I’ve come to realise that the more open you are the more doors get shut in your face and the phone is silent. I get a lot of “just get over it”. My husband says I use it like an excuse. He also says he wishes he had all the money he wasted on me with the doctors, going to the hospital 4 times and our rates being higher. I wish I could find a man who could hold me and support me. I feel like I’m withering away. I wish I had a sister like Glenn Close. My daughters are not speaking to me because they don’t believe all this brain BS. God has given me many wonderful gifts but I feel guilty because with my condidion, I’m unreliable so I can’t make commitments and let people down. I’m so lonely. I’m only about 40 miles east of L.A. Are there any of your groups near me? People who understand? I’ve gone to AA (wrong problem), several churches but what I really want is someone who already knows me and will love and hug me anyway. They just aren’t out there. Both of my parents died in February of 2002. God I wish I had them back. My husbands family is cold and very uncaring. I feel like I am on an island. I’m glad I found your site though. Thank you.
