PHOENIX, ARIZONA- Academic Behavioral Alternatives (ABA) today announces that Erik Ryan, Vice President of Educational Services for ABA, will speak to mental health providers, educators, and administrators at the 13th Annual Conference on Advancing School Mental Health held on Friday, Sept. 26, at the Hyatt Regency in Phoenix, Ariz. The conference is the nation’s premiere school mental health conference, and offers numerous opportunities to network and learn about best practices in school mental health.

Ryan and his colleagues will present ABA’s model of school-based therapeutic day programs, with an emphasis on the effectiveness of Positive Behavioral Supports (PBS) with students identified as having a severe emotional disability.  He will provide strategies for the effective engagement of school systems toward the development of school-based therapeutic day programs. Three year trend data from the Chandler Campus will be presented, wherein ABA’s staff reported a decrease in “significant behavioral problems” from 12% to 6%, overall.

“Our data indicates that the use of positive behavioral supports effectively decreases significant behavior problems, and provides our students with adaptive skills for generalization to the school setting and their home environment. Our programs give students the tools they need to more quickly return to their home school, and be successful in their community” said Ryan.
